What Is NK Cell Immunotherapy? Treatment with the Body's Natural Killer Cells

NK cells are the immune system's natural soldiers capable of destroying cancer cells without prior recognition. Laboratory-enhanced NK therapies are in daily practice in Japan.

What Is NK Cell Immunotherapy? Treatment with the Body's Natural Killer Cells

NK (Natural Killer) cells are the first line of defense of our immune system: they find and destroy virus-infected or cancerous cells without needing to recognize them beforehand. In cancer patients, the number and strength of these cells have often declined.

How does NK cell immunotherapy work? NK cells from a blood sample taken from the patient (or a donor where appropriate) are multiplied and activated in specialized laboratories in Japan, then returned to the patient intravenously. This strengthened army of cells circulates through the body targeting cancer cells.

For whom is it considered? As supportive therapy alongside standard treatments, to reduce recurrence risk after surgery, and in patients who want to strengthen their immune system. Treatment is outpatient and the side-effect profile is generally mild.

Japan is among the world's most advanced countries in cell culture technologies. For your eligibility, you can upload your reports via our patient panel.
