BNCT: single-session precision therapy in routine clinical use
Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) stands out in Japan as the world's first routine clinical approval, notably for recurrent head & neck cancers.

In BNCT, the patient first receives a boron-containing compound that selectively accumulates in tumor cells. A neutron beam then triggers a microscopic reaction only in the boron-loaded cells, destroying the tumor at the cellular level — healthy tissue is almost entirely spared.
In 2020, Japan became the first country to approve BNCT for routine clinical use in recurrent head & neck cancers. A single session is sufficient for most patients, and research is expanding to brain tumors and meningiomas. Osaka University's clinical center and the KEK Tsukuba infrastructure are the reference points of this field.
