Which Cancers Is Proton Therapy Used For? Who Is Eligible?

The proton beam leaves almost no dose in healthy tissue beyond the tumor. It is becoming the gold standard in childhood cancers, brain and head-neck tumors.

Which Cancers Is Proton Therapy Used For? Who Is Eligible?

Unlike conventional radiotherapy, proton therapy deposits the beam's energy exactly at the tumor's depth; healthy organs behind the tumor receive almost no radiation. This feature provides a major advantage in tumors adjacent to critical organs and in pediatric patients whose bodies are still developing.

Where does it stand out? Childhood tumors, brain and spinal cord tumors, head-neck cancers, prostate cancer, lung and liver tumors, and recurrent cases that have previously received radiation to the treatment area.

Who is eligible? Those with tumors close to sensitive structures such as the heart, spinal cord or eyes; young patients with long life expectancy; children and young adults who want to reduce the risk of secondary cancers.

With more than 20 years of experience in proton therapy, Japan is one of the world's leading countries. For an eligibility assessment, upload your reports via the CyberCellX panel; the Japanese expert board responds within 5 business days.
